7 Best Things to Do in Colombia [Traveler’s Guide]

If you are a world traveler and have yet to visit the northernmost region of South America than you are missing out! Colombia is the place I have called home the last 6 months and have fallen in love with it and the wonderful people that live here.

Colombia may have disappeared as a top tourist destination in the past few decades due to guerilla violence but in recent years, with beefed-up security and recent peace agreements, I have noticed Colombia is a very safe country to travel to.

I have never really felt threatened here.

Colombia has much to offer visitors, whether you are looking to see World Heritage Sites, visit the Amazon rainforest, head to the beach, go hiking in the lost city or stroll through the old Spanish fort.

Below you will find 7 of the best things to do in Colombia.

Top 7 Things To Do In Colombia

1) Eje Cafetero

Top Places to go in Colombia

If you are a coffee aficionado, then you can’t miss Eje Cafetero. Eje Cafetero is just outside of Medellin in the region of Antioquia and is Colombia’s biggest coffee producer.

Here you will be able to participate in coffee tastings, go on tours of coffee farms to learn how coffee is grown and turned into the bean you buy at the store.

If you visit a local coffee farm you will notice that many of them are organic.

We went on one these coffee tastings and had the opportunity to see the entire process of cultivating and making coffee from start to finish.

All in all, it was a delicious tasting.

Coffee Tasting

Salento is a good base town from which you can book tours. From Salento, you can take a short car ride to the Cocora Valley, which has the world’s tallest palm trees.

It was truly a fantastic sight to see as we went on horseback rides in and around the valley. It was picturesque.

Salento is easily one of the most-traveled spots in Colombia and for good reason!

2) Cartagena

Best things in Cartagena

Cartagena is probably my top-recommended tourist destination for anyone coming to Colombia for the first time.

There is so much to see in terms of history and style and plenty of relaxation to be done with nearby crystal clear beaches (Playa Blanca) in surrounding islands.

You can see it all whether you are looking for the beach or the old city square.

Located on the Caribbean coast, Cartagena was the first Spanish settlement in Colombia. Its well-preserved old town called Ciudad Amurallada (Walled City) is a World Heritage Site.

Just walking through the town square and grabbing a bite to eat or a beverage is a magical experience engaging the senses.

In the old town, you should visit Plaza Trinidad, which is the oldest part of the quarter and boasts many local restaurants. For a more modern feel, visit Bocagrande, the new part of Cartagena.

Castillo San Felipe de Barajas

Finally, one of my favorite things to do in Cartagena is to visit the old Spanish fort that the Spaniards used to fend off the invading British navy.

It was a fantastic experience walking in and out of the interior tunnels of the fort and see the base up close and personal.

Also, it came with a spectacular view of the city and water.

3) Leticia

Leticia in Colombia

If you are up for an Amazonian adventure, Leticia is your Colombian base town.

Since it is deep in the rainforest it is only accessible by plane from Bogotá. From Leticia, you can go on hikes or safaris or take an eco-tour and learn about the indigenous tribes in the region.

You can travel from here by boat to Manaus, Brazil or Iquitos, Peru.

If you love the jungle and want to get a full experience, make sure you head hear to Leticia for a marvelous experience.

Just don't forget the bug spray!

visiting Colombia rainforest

This is on my "places to visit" list but unfortunately, I still have not made my way to the Amazonian rainforest just yet.

4) Tayrona National Park

Things to see in Colombia

The best thing to do in Santa Marta is to take a short trip to the Tayrona National Park located on the Caribbean coast just outside of the city.

The spectacular park boasts multiple beautiful beaches, palm-shaded coves, and a lagoon called La Piscina. In La Piscina, you can go snorkeling in a protected swimming area near a natural reef and view marine animals such as lobsters and rays.

Visiting Parque Tayrona

If you want to go hiking, there are sandy hiking trails or you can take a day trip to the nearby rainforest in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains.

We just got back from Parque Tayrona and were blown away by the beauty all around us – it was like hiking in the rainforest with the Atlantic coast next to you.

We took a short day trip that brought us to various beaches and a guided half-day hike. Don’t worry, we had plenty of time to relax by the beach and enjoy a beverage.

You can also stay overnight at the park in cabins, tents or even a hotel if that’s your preference. To avoid the crowds, visit in the low season from February to November.

5) Ciudad Perdida

Ciudad perdida

Have you ever wanted to visit the lost city? Well, now you can in Colombia!

Ciudad Perdida, also known as the Lost City of Teyune, is located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains.

Basically, it’s Colombia’s version of the Inka Trail in Peru. If you are an extreme adventurer and love the long backpacking trips, then this is the trip for you!

Lost City of Colombia

It is one of the largest pre-Colombian settlements in the Americas, but just like Machu Picchu it was only recently discovered.

It was rediscovered only in the 1970s.

Many of the stone circular terraces left from its 8th to 14th century inhabitants still exist. It was left by the Tayrona Indians, which had since been overgrown by jungle.

For those wanting the full experience, make sure to go on the intense four-day 44-kilometer hike.

They will set you up with a whole crew of porters and cooks to make sure your exhausting hike is a good one.  One thing to keep in mind is that you must book a tour to visit this great park.

Finally, since the Ciudad Perdida has not yet built up the reputation of Machu Picchu, you can do the backpacking trip from considerably less money and at the same time not be around the massive crowds that I experienced in Machu Picchu.

6) Caño Cristales

Top things to do in Colombia

Caño Cristales is one of the most beautiful destinations in all of Colombia.

It is known as the Liquid Rainbow or the River of Five Colors due to the plants, rocks, sand and algae in the river that make it appear black, white, green, yellow and a vibrant red.

It’s truly spectacular to see. I’d be surprised if you haven’t seen pictures of it yet.

Places in Colombia

To enjoy the colors to their fullest, visit in July to November when there is an algal bloom.

In Caño Cristales, you can enjoy hiking along the river canyon, the waterfall called Los Cuarzos and natural swimming pools.

To reach Caño Cristales, go to La Macarena, which can be reached by plane from Bogotá or Villacencio.

Trust me it is worth the journey.

7) Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá

Best things in Colombia

Finally, rounding out our list of the best places to visit in Colombia is none other than the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá.  It is a legendary tourist spot that Colombians and extranjeros rave about.

Zipaquirá is the salt-mining capital of Colombia. Located in one of its disused mines is the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, which is constructed almost entirely of salt.

This salt mine was built 200 meters underground! That’s over 2 football fields in depth for those not well-versed in distances.

In addition to being a popular tourist attraction, it hosts a congregation of around 3,000 people every Sunday.

Around the cathedral is a Salt Park, where you can see mine landmarks and visit the Brine Museum to learn about the salt industry.

If you want to see a glimpse of Colombia’s most beautiful artistry, this might be just the place for you.

Salt Cathedral

Summing It Up

where to go in Colombia

Colombia is a remarkable place in so many ways.  It is a country I have come to love as the people are extremely humble and kind and filled with lots of joy.

Are you thinking I am making that up? A recent poll rated Colombia the happiest country in the world as 87% of Colombians said they are happy.

Beyond the wonderful people, it is a country filled with fascinating history, culture and of course natural attractions.

We have listed seven of the best things to do in Colombia and each one has its own special treasure. If you have been considering visiting Colombia but have been unsure of where to go or uncertain about safety, use this list as your impetus to go.

Do you have any questions about Colombia? Feel free to leave a comment below and I will make sure to get back to you.

7 Important Camping Food List Items (You Can’t Go Without)

When you go camping, you are usually foregoing your ability to indulge in your favorite meals and takeout items.

Sometimes, you are even taking yourself so far into the wilderness that you won’t be near a grocery store for the duration of your trip. Packing good food for camping is essential if you want to have an enjoyable adventure.

important camp drinks

Camping inspires minimalist packing. However, that doesn't mean you skimp on the necessities like nutritious camp food.

If anything, food and water should be what you pack the most of.

You can survive wearing one shirt for two or three days, but you can’t last without daily sustenance especially with all the calories you will be burning in the wild.

The following camping food list will touch on some basic (and important!) items that you mustn’t forget to bring with you.

Camping Food Checklist | 7 Good Camp Foods

1. Easy-to-Cook Meats

camping foods packing list

Protein is such an important part of the diet that you would be silly to go without it.

It will fill you up and give you the energy you need as you go hiking. Most proteins can be bought in bulk and in the family size if needed.

Sausage, hot dogs, and beef patties can all be brought along and kept in a cooler until the time is right. They are affordable and can easily be cooked all at once.

Hot dogs are a classic camping food item so make sure you don't go with them.

They are quite easy to cook and all you need is a fire pits or grille. I have found that most camp grounds come with an easy to operate grille.

Just don't forget the lighter!

2. Carbs, Carbs, Carbs

Camping activities, such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming all require a lot of energy.

essential camp foods

Be sure to pack some dry cereal, instant oatmeal, and energy bars to have with you as meals or snacks during the day.

Often it’s not a great thing to stack up on carbs if you are trying to keep your waistline in check.

However, if you are out in nature hiking away and burning lots of calories, I think it’s okay to stack up on some carbs. I would still stay away from refined carbs like bread which provide only short term energy bursts.

If you love bread it would be a good idea to get a 100% whole wheat and make yourself some PB&J sandwiches to take with you. The peanut butter provides some excellent protein.

If jelly isn't your thing you can always swap that out with cup up banana.

Carbs are essential to your diet, but just make sure you are getting the right ones!

3. On-the-Go Snacks

If your moving around from place to place, it’s important to bring along some on-the-go snacks.

Best camping snacks

Be sure to have something everyone can eat on the move without having to prepare in the moment.

Some good examples are protein bars, granola bars, trail mix, and peanut butter crackers. These are all great foods for everyone should have on hand.

As with the previous selection above, try and stay clear of overly sugary snacks. They will give you a quick sugar rush but then leave you high and dry a few hours later.

That’s one reason why I prefer water over Gatorade. Gatorade might give you some extra electrolytes but it is also heavily saturated with sugar.

A good trail mix that has lots of high fiber nuts like almonds and cashews is usually my go to snack. Make sure you don’t pick up a bag that is pure M&M’s and chocolate chips.

Just because it says "trail mix" doesn't mean it isn't just candy bag disguised in different packaging.

4. Dried Fruits and Vegetables

If you are looking for healthier options, your local grocery store is sure to have some dried fruits and vegetables for your next trip.

Dried Fruits

Fruits are natures candy. It is important to note that even if you do get dried fruits without added sugar, it is still going to have quite a bit of natural sugar.

Dried fruit is a heck of a lot better than eating a candy bar, but that still doesn’t mean that you can eat a mountain of it! Keep it in moderation and you will get a nice energy boost.

Vegetables should be a big part of everyone’s diet whether you are going camping or staying at home. World class football quarterback Tom Brady is known for eating vegetables 80% of the time!

Make sure to bring along some carrot sticks or dried vegetables on the trip.

It will be hard to bring along your greens, but if you have a cooler, why not do what I’ve done and pack some spinach and mix them with your morning eggs. Delicious!

5. Nuts

Nuts are another great source of protein and will fill you up rather quickly. Anything from walnuts, to almonds, pistachios, or peanuts can be bought at any gas station or grocery store.

best camping foods

These are all fantastic nuts that provide fiber, magnesium, and antioxidants to keep you healthy and sustained on your journey.

Nuts are my go-to snack in the office so I would be a fool not to bring them along on my next camping trip.

They are easy to eat and you don’t have to prepare anything to consume them. You just pop a few in your mouth on the go and you will get some essential vitamins and minerals.

They also taste great when mixed in with other foods! See the trail mix mentioned above.

They are truly the ultimate hiking snack.

6. S’mores!

Camp food list

Every now and then you can splurge, right?

I know my list so far has steered towards healthy foods. This one most certainly does not.

What would a camping trip even be without s’mores?

No kids? No problem! It’s never wrong to have the classic ingredients on hand for those nights around the fire.

If not s’mores, be sure to have something sweet on hand to help you unwind and enjoy your trip.

These are the perfect camp foods when you need a sweet treat on hand.

7. Drinks

Water should be the foundation of what you drink on your camping trip. In fact, if it was the only thing you drink, I would be okay with that.

However, I imagine you want to drink something with a little more flavor at times.

Best Camp Food beverages

If you have a way of heating up your beverage by the campfire than I highly recommend bringing some tea packs or coffee to give you that nice morning burst that you likely have at home.

Often you can get water additives that aren’t loaded with sugar and can be added to any ordinary water bottles. Stay clear of soda as it is unfortunately just sugar water.

Use cold packs and coolers to keep your beverages cold. Adults should be okay bringing alcohol such as beer and wine if you enjoy a cold one from time to time.

Make sure you are at a campsite that allows for bottles though as it might be best to bring cans as glass tends to break.

Sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade are generally discouraged, but if you must I would say it’s okay to drink sparingly after working up a full days swat. This is for those doing a lot of daily activity and needing those extra electrolytes.

Any Important Camp Food Items I left Out?

Before you go, plan your big meals and account for each person so you aren’t short on food!

Best camp foods

Ramon noodles, canned meats, and eggs have all been solid choices for most camp goers. They are easy to prepare and provide some much-needed nutrition.

If you are staying at popular campgrounds, most will include a fire pit or cooking stove to use. Just make sure to bring the matches and fire starters.

If you are hiking to remote locations for your trip, be very certain of how much food you are packing. Go with the lighter options like the ramon noodles mentioned above.

Pack extra to accommodate for when things go wrong. You really never know! If you are sleeping outside, make sure to bring animal-proof storage that locks the food tight at night.

Hopefully, this camping food list gave you some basics and essentials for having a great camping experience.

Head to your local supermarket and pick up some of the best camp food you can buy.

Yeti Coolers Review Guide| Best Yeti Ice Chests

You probably have already heard of the name Yeti, due to their outstanding reputation for delivering high-end superior coolers and drinkware.

Best Yeti Coolers

Beautiful Austin, Texas

Yeti’s base of operations is in my home town of Austin, Texas and so likewise I have bought and used much of their products over the years along with testing and reviewing other brands.

I try not to be too biased in our Yeti Coolers review, but the fact of the matter is they make some seriously awesome coolers from top to bottom.

The Coolers they make aren’t just any old thing you can find at the big box department stores.

The whole story began in 2006, when two enterprising brothers were fed up of the traditional, flimsy old coolers that were on the market. They saw a problem and wanted to fix it.

So they started in their dad’s garage in Dripping Springs, Texas.  They slowly worked away to build a "tough as nails" cooler that they would be happy to use everyday.

Yeti Tundra Cooler

Over the years, they have built an excellent manufacturing and quality control team to ensure top of the line coolers.

By building out a support team along with a rockstar sales staff they have tripled their sales in the last year alone!

Their Yeti Tundra 65 is the biggest Yeti cooler and is great for those serious fisherman out there as we believe they put out arguably the best marine cooler on the market today.

They have outstanding rotomolded coolers that have been battle tested and have been proved to keep ice for days on end.

What Are the Best Yeti Coolers?

Yeti has excellent coolers for any occasion.

As mentioned earlier, the Yeti Tundra is the best Yeti cooler (in our opinion) on the marketplace and durable enough to use for years on end. It has your typical ice chest look to it, but without the bad news bears quality of big department store brands.

Yeti 40 Field Hopper

The biggest difference is the fact that it is molded together with world class materials and latches that keep the cooler perfectly compressed. No heat is going to get in this thing.

Its hard shell has been proven to hold up over time and it is perfect for any occasion whether that be a backyard BBQ or a fishing trip with friends.

Also, check out the Yeti Hopper Portable Cooler.

Last year, some friends and I took the Yeti Hopper with us on a camping trip to Big Bend National Park. We bought some ice and groceries before heading out on the almost 7 hour journey and placed all the everything inside the Hopper and zipped it shut.

Yeti Coolers Review

*Courtesy of Google Maps

Even though we used it throughout the whole weekend, we found all of our food stayed cool the whole trip and most of the ice had not melted when we got home at the end of the weekend.

Best Soft Coolers

Talk about a high quality cooler!

Sure beats all the coolers I had growing up that leaked constantly. I just remember lugging around those ugly tanks and I felt like there was almost always something that went wrong on our trips to the beach.

Most of time you get what you pay for.

And even though you pay a pretty penny for a Yeti cooler, I am completely convinced they are worth the investment (notice how I used the word investment and not cost).

YETI Hopper Flip 12

Beyond that, they have other studly coolers for personal use like the Yeti Flip Hopper. One of my friends uses that portable cooler as a lunch box each day for work.

No refrigerator needed.

This awesome Yeti personal cooler makes for the perfect size to carry with you on short trips camping or to the beach. The opening is large and the strap makes it easy to lug with you wherever you are off to.

It even has a bottle opener that you can use to pop open a cool one.

What About Other Coolers Like Yeti?

In recent years, plenty of wannabes have popped up in the market attempting to steal some of Yeti’s pricy consumer marketshare.

Many have downright copied the manufacturing and branding style.

Yeti Coolers Court Case

As recent as February 2017, RTIC Coolers settled an ongoing lawsuit where they have been forced to cease and desist on making hard-sided coolers, soft-sided coolers and drinkware and redesign anything in question.

They even had to dish out some cash to Yeti.

They literally just about copied everything that Yeti did well and tried to steal Yeti’s customers and offer practically identical products at a lower price.

For many, who were not brand conscious, they managed to steal consumers away and have even built up a nice brand and business that employs almost 100 employees.

Check out their response to the lawsuit settlement here in case you are interested.

But some take offense to the fact that Yeti does not manufacture all their coolers in the United States.

Pelican Products ProGear Elite Cooler

Pelican is a longstanding brand that also delivers premium coolers at a high-end price point. They have excellent rotomolded designs and come with an outstanding 40 year reputation and warranty.

If you want a 100% American made company, then we suggest you check out our Pelican or Grizzly recommendations in our in depth coolers review article.

Are Yeti Coolers Worth the Investment?

If you can’t tell by now, we love Yeti Coolers. We love them so much we decided to do this complete Yeti coolers review.

Yeti Roadie 20 Quart Cooler

If the last litigation story doesn’t speak enough to you than please know Yeti is trying to build a long term brand that holds up over time.

Sure, you can always go with a cheaper company with a lesser reputation, but as you can see, Yeti is committed to standing out in the cooler and drinkware space and they want to do their best to protect their brand and deliver great value and service to their consumers.

If you are still hesitant, please know that they offer a 3-5 year warranty to protect your investment.

Why Are They Called Yeti Coolers?

Why Is It Called Yeti Coolers

The brothers Roy and Ryan named it after the abominable snowman from the Himalayas.

Even though Sir Edmund Hillary searched far and wide for it there is still quite a lacking in evidence of its existence.

Like the legendary ice monsters, the company states that their coolers are “tough, hard-wearing, and adapted to harsh environments.”

Although it’s existence is still uncertain, one thing is for sure, Yeti delivers consistently great coolers.

Where Are Yeti Coolers Made? Find Out If Yeti Is Made In The USA…

Last Updated: September 19th, 2018

Wondering whether or not Yeti is made in the USA? Well, you're in the right place.

In recent years, Yeti has built up quite a following of outdoorsy people that like high quality products.

Recently, their sales have taken off and have even tripled in just last year alone!

Many people swear by their coolers and drink cups. Personally, we love Yeti and use there cups, coolers, and products all the time.

Yeti Tundra Cooler

Rarely can competitors compare to the level of quality and skill in craftsmanship that Yeti accomplishes on all of their products.

Yeti has really built up a loyal cult-like following in recent years and it is not very often that a week goes by without seeing many Yeti bumper stickers, hats, T-shirts and so on.

However, despite their top quality products, some people have taken exception to them.

Although an American company founded by two Texan brothers, they have received some negative pushback as not all their products are manufactured in the USA.

That leads us to the question of the day, “Where are Yeti Coolers made?”

Are Yeti Coolers Made in the USA?

Here's a question we get asked often, "Is Yeti Made in USA???" or "Where is Yeti Coolers made?"

Yes and no... Here’s Yeti’s response direct from their website:

Our Tundra coolers are manufactured in the USA at facilities located in Iowa and Wisconsin as well as at a facility located in the Philippines.  Our Hopper coolers and Rambler drinkware are manufactured in China.

Yeti FAQs

So it’s clear that a lot of their operations are here in the United States and they truly only outsource the parts and operations that are absolutely necessary overseas.

Are Yeti Coolers Made In The USA?

After asking around further, I have found that the quality concerns are another reason they manufacturer partly overseas as they want to make sure to have the absolute best products at an affordable price point.

Like many companies, it is more cost effective and in some cases even better quality when you outsource manufacturing overseas.  Likely this is the case here.

Below are a list of the Best Yeti Coolers in 2018.

Still, some people might be a little put off by an American company manufacturing part of their operations overseas.

For those neighsayers out their, I present a couple other options for you.

Best American Manufactured Coolers Brands

Best American Coolers Brands

Here’s a couple other great options out there for those that want a superb cooler manufactured in the US of A.

If you like the quality of Yeti, we have no doubt you will also love these two brands just as much!

Pelican

One of Yeti’s staunchest of competitors is Pelican.  Like Yeti, they deliver some fantastic coolers with top of the line materials.

They have over 40 years of manufacturing experience and have developed a superb reputation.

Pelican Products ProGear Elite Cooler

With headquarters located in sunny Torrance, California they have manufacturing facilities all around the United States.

Recently, in 2012, they introduced a staple of their cooler line, the Pelican ProGear Elite with “tough-as-nails” materials to compete with the Yeti Tundra and other premium brands.

They also deliver excellent products and have really emerged as a top of the line brand neck and neck with Yeti in the cooler market. We particularly like their Pelican Elite Wheeled Cooler which won our best wheeled cooler in our recent review.

Grizzly Coolers 60-Quart Cooler

No joke, they actually have a IGBC bear resistant testing process.

They also go in a 90-degree climate controlled testing process to ensure their coolers hold up and retain ice for days in the most extreme of conditions. We have found their ice retention to be fantastic.

Whether you are out in really hot weather or the frigid cold, you will like how well these coolers hold up over time.

Grizzly, like Pelican, are also 100% manufactured and made in the United States.

Grizzly 15 quart

Specifically, they are made in Decorah, Iowa. Who knew something this good could come out of Iowa? (Only kidding)

You can rest assured that you are buying a fully American made product when you invest in one of Grizzly’s excellent rotomolded coolers.

What’s the Best Cooler Manufacturer?

Ultimately, you have to go with your gut.

Are Yeti Coolers Made In America?

There is not a ton of separation in quality from Yeti to Pelican to Grizzly. They all spend a lot of time in the manufacturing process and only use top of the line materials.

You will not be disappointed no matter which direction you go.

Personally, we love the look and feel of the Yeti coolers most and we know that they as a company are doing great things and building a fantastic brand.

But if you are concerned about where Yeti coolers are made, we have no doubt you will like some of our other top options that we laid out above from Pelican to Grizzly.

All three companies take a lot of time into ensuring  perfection on each cooler that gets manufactured.

Best Cooler Brands| Top 3 Ice Chest Manufacturers

Buying the right cooler can be quite the hassle.

Most all of us have some sort of cooler horror stories.  You probably at some point in your life have went with a cheap cooler that doesn’t last long and starts leaking.

Yeti Coolers

I feel like that was the case when I was growing up where there just weren’t that nice of coolers out there on the market and all the Walmart big box coolers were a piece of junk.

Unfortunately, in my family, we often went the cheap and easy over high quality and long lasting.

Thankfully, in recent years there has been a greater emphasis on quality over price and some new upstart brands have spoken to the consumer need for high-end coolers.

We are here to lay out the best cooler brands to pick from on the market.

We tried to lay out the top three companies in a factual, but fun way, while sprinkling in some videos showing the toughness of the coolers.

Check out our three favorites below...

Top Cooler Brands

Yeti

Looking for the gold standard in the ice chest industry?

After lots of testing and meta-data analysis we have found that the best cooler brand is none other than Yeti.

Founded by a couple of brothers in 2006, they saw a serious pain point for people who needed a high quality cooler. They got sick of the cheap big box brands out there that continually broke down.

Yeti Roadie 20 Quart Cooler

So they set out to create a high-end premium brand cooler with only the best materials. Their goal was to create a cooler that they would use every day

And that is exactly what they did.

Some might bark at the price of their coolers, but to be honest if you are always buying new ice chests every few years or are having problems with the ones you have, it’s worth the money over time when you value the hassle free guarantee Yeti gives.

Yeti Tundra

In recent years, Yeti has blitzed the market and taken a lot of the premium market share from other competitors (listed below). Yeti has built up an excellent reputation with superb product and an outstanding brand focused on two things quality and service.

They don’t sell cheap coolers (just check their prices), but what you will consistently find is people that are more than satisfied for the overall quality and longevity of their products.

Yeti Soft Cooler

Lots of times you get what you pay for.  And in this case, you truly get a great cooler with Yeti.

Something to keep in mind is that although they are an American company, creating jobs in America, they also do import some of their coolers from Vietnam.

For those looking for a strictly American brand, check out Pelican Products below.

Overall, Yeti has done it with superb, unique products, and excellent customer service. I know you will be just as satisfied in their coolers and products as I and thousands of others have been.

They don’t compromise on quality under any circumstances.

Still doubt the toughness of a Yeti?

Checkout how it stacks up against everything Yeti could throw at it:

Pelican

Pelican Coolers is another excellent brand that, like Yeti, serves the high-end quality customer.

In fact, they even have our favorite wheeled cooler, the Pelican ProGear Elite Wheeled Cooler.

Pelican Products ProGear Elite Cooler

It has been around for over 40 years and is based in the beautiful SoCal city of Torrance. They continue to deliver a great quality product year in and year out.

Customers rave about the quality of their products and many have a hard time deciding between Pelican and Yeti. To be honest, it was tough for us and honestly we love both brands.

Their top cooler, the Pelican Elite Cooler, is outstanding and is known to keep ice insulated for up to 10 days. That’s a whole fishing trip and then some.

Pelican offers a lifetime warranty to show that they 100% backup the quality on all of their coolers.

With that focus on quality, it’s no wonder they are one of the best ice chests brands on the market today.

Pelican ProGear 20QT 20 Quart Elite Cooler

As mentioned earlier, many people take offense to Yeti.

Although Yeti is an American brand, some of their coolers come from overseas. It is for that reason why many buyers have gone with other top ice chest brands, like Pelican.

Before you skip down to Grizzly Coolers, keep in mind that Pelican makes sure their coolers are 100% bear resistant.

It’s clear they value thick, durable, materials that don’t break down under ANY circumstance.

The toughness and durability of their coolers is truly represented in their name: Grizzly Coolers.

They actually test all their coolers with IGBC bear resistant testing to make sure you're safe in the wild with one of their products. Clearly it’s not just a name! Next time you are in mother nature with bears don’t be scared.

Igloo

**Best Affordable Cooler Brand**

We thought about not including Igloo as, to be honest, their coolers don’t really stack up to the best 3 cooler brands listed above.

Igloo Yukon Cold Locker Cooler

If we put them to the bear test or the mack truck test, I am most certain they fail.

But they are not as heavily invested in their materials as they want to reach a more mass market.

If you liked the above videos, and the quality above, but can’t afford to pay top dollar, then maybe Igloo is what you need.

We realize that not everyone wants to drop $200+ on a cooler. So we wanted to provide an alternative to the high-end, expensive cooler brands on the market.

Created in 1947 in a modest metalworking shop. Now, they have expanded into a 1.8 million square foot building in Katy, Texas a suburban town outside of Houston.

Igloo Daytripper Collection

Over the years, they have innovated and expanded into many different markets and product lines.  But as whole, they are known for their many styles and types of coolers ranging from tough heavy duty coolers that work great for boating and fishing trips all the way to portable electric coolers.

Igloo serves a great market and does a great job with their coolers while providing a bigtime appeal for discount retailers like Walmart and Costco. For the most part, their coolers hold up and they provide a good variety of types and styles to choose from.

Again, if you are looking for affordable and simple, these coolers are you go tos.

What’s the Best Cooler Brand For You?

We hope you liked our in depth analysis and study of the best cooler brands on the market today.

From old timers like Pelican and Igloo, to newer upstarts like Grizzly and Yeti, you should have no problem picking out a style that you like.

But are you still having a hard time deciding?

Let me hit you with a quick breakdown of the facts above and help you come to a better conclusion.

Pelican Products ProGear Elite Wheeled Cooler

If you want a tough American manufactured cooler that is guaranteed to last go with Pelican. The Pelican ProGear Elite cooler is fantastic and they even have a wheeled option which is fantastic.

Grizzly has the coolest name and has an IGBC bear resistant, extreme temperature quality tested process that guarantees a perfect cooler to every buyer. So if you don’t like bears eating your food and you like the design, go with Grizzly.

Don’t want to shell out $200+ for a new cooler and want a great low cost cooler, than go with the Igloo models outlined above. They don’t have the same guarantees to quality, but as a whole they do a good job serving the mass market audience.

Finally, if you want to go with our favorite, and also a local American company, go with Yeti. They manufacturer top of the line coolers and truly work extremely hard with their suppliers to ensure serious quality control.

Yeti Tundra Cooler

However, watch out for all the Yeti copycats out there.

The Yeti Tundra is a beast to say the least and can withstand any task.

Still don’t believe me? Still don’t think Yeti is tough enough to withstand anything that comes its way?

I have one more video for you as a 500-pound man takes on a Yeti Tundra. Haha enjoy! 🙂

Thanks for bearing with me with all the destructive videos.  I hope you weren’t too put off by all the tough cooler tests...

Best Electric Coolers | Top 5 Electric Ice Chests On The Market

Last Updated: September 19th, 2018

Having fresh food and cool drinks is a must for any long distance traveler.

Knox 48 Quart Electric Cooler-Warmer

Though there are plenty of excellent ice chests available, sometimes you just want the reliability of an electric cooler. You don't have to worry about melting ice or leaks with a plugged in cooler after all.

In this article, I'm going to break down the five best electric coolers offered online.

There are plenty of options for those who want to be plugged in.

I consider design, spaciousness, noise level, and all the important features to better help you make the right decision when it comes to electric coolers.

Looking for a heavy duty ice chest to go along with your electric?  We put together top of the line reviews with extensive meta-data research on all the best coolers right here.

Electric Ice Chests Review List

1. Knox 48 Quart Electric Cooler/Warmer

My top electric cooler pick is the Knox 48 Quart Electric Cooler/Warmer.

Knox 48 Quart Electric Cooler-Warmer

As you can guess from the name, this is a versatile piece of gear with options for cooling or heating food when on the road.

The built-in AC home plug and DC car plug also means you have plenty of options for charging this spacious cooler.

At a mid-range price, this chest is an excellent deal for the 48-quart size. Keep in mind the fan is rather noisy, so sleeping with it running could prove difficult.

The wheels make it an easy companion to carry around with you, while the five and half foot DC cable is a convenient length for plopping it on the backseat.

2. Wagan (EL6224) 12V Cooler/Warmer

One of the best 12v coolers on the market is the Wagan 12V at a price that is a steal of a deal.

Wagan (EL6224) 12V Cooler-Warmer

The Wagan 12V Cooler/Warmer may be small, but its great design means it has a surprisingly spacious interior. Its petite size allows it to sit comfortably behind the passenger seat which of course makes the Wagan very portable.

The fan is not too loud, though you will notice it somewhat in a totally quiet room.

The seven and half foot DC cable is long enough to sit it on the backseat of larger cars, so any younger campers behind you can help themselves to chilled snacks on the way.

3. Excelvan 12V Thermoelectric Cooler/Warmer

My most affordable option on my best electric coolers list is the Excelvan travel refrigerator.

Excelvan BT16 6L 12V Portable Car Thermoelectric Cooler-Warmer

This is a convenient little cooler with a few nice attributes for its cheaper price.

The top cover offers easy access to the chamber, while the shoulder strap means you can carry this cooler from home to car and car to site without any trouble.

The slim body design lets this chest sit easily on the floor of the backseat, and the non-slip footpads are a nice safety feature.

The cooler does have a strong plastic smell straight out of the box, so it's advisable to wrap food well or air the machine before use.

However, if you are looking to save money and want a great electric cooler for your next adventure, we think the Excelvn portable cooler/warmer might be just what you were looking for.

4. Igloo Iceless 40-Quart with 110-volt Converter

It will be no surprise to outdoor enthusiasts that an Igloo model has made it onto my list of electric cooler reviews.

Igloo 40375 Iceless 40-Quart

This is a top brand that comes with a high price tag.

However, as often is the case, the high price point means better quality. The Igloo 40-Quart is plenty large enough to carry a good amount of food and drinks for your next car ride.

The aesthetic exterior is sleek and modern, and the body is well-constructed and durable.

Dual orientation means that this electric chest is top-loaded when horizontal, or front loaded with a door when it's vertical.

The power cord can be a little fragile, so take care when plugging the cooler in and removing the plug after use.

If you are looking for a nice sized popular name brand cooler, look no further than this Igloo model. Check the price below.

Coleman 40 Quart Thermoelectric Cooler

This car cooler is a sound buy, and can be used in the home as well with its 110v outlet, but you will definitely need an adaptor.

Also, dual oriented, this is a well-thought out product with tray shelves for organizing your items.

This means you can easily fit in more essentials than less well-outfitted coolers. The motor is quiet, so if you are using this in sleeping areas such as an SUV or a dorm room, then you shouldn't lose any sleep.

Pre-chilling items before putting them in will make the best use of this solid cooler.

Conclusion: Which Cooler Is Right For You?

I've looked at some of the best electric coolers available online.

Knox 48 Quart Electric Cooler-Warmer

Personally, we really liked the Knox 48 Quart Cooler/Warmer due to its large size, versatility, and durability.

But other brands like the Igloo 40-Quart PowerChill offer a great alternative if you are looking for something different.

Igloo 40375 Iceless 40-Quart

While powerless ice-chests are a more independent, rugged option, electric coolers have plenty of benefits, and can serve multiple purposes such as an extra refrigerator in the kitchen, a dorm or in the garage.

If you are going on long road trips this saves the hassle of having to constantly be buying more ice and draining out the water on a regular cooler.

When considering your options, it's best to think about where you'll be using the cooler. If it's in sleeping quarters, you'll want something with a quiet fan.

However, if it's for long car journeys the fan noise won't create as much of a problem.

Cord length, the cooler's interior, and durability are also factors that must be considered before you make that all-important purchase.

Not satisfied with the electric cooler options and want a real heavy duty cooler? We put together a list of the top heavy duty coolers on the market. Check out our in depth analysis and review of the best coolers on the market here.

Best Soft Sided Coolers For Any Occasion

Planning a short excursion but don't fancy the idea of limp lettuce, soggy sandwiches, and warm beer?

Yeti Soft Cooler

Then a good soft cooler is probably something you want to invest in. Hard sided ice chests are useful, but can be cumbersome and difficult to transport, especially if your destination has a long walk involved like an outing to the beach.

Some of the best soft sided coolers, like the Yeti shown in the right image,  keep your perishables safe and cold, without adding the extra bulk.

There is a broad range of coolers available, from value buys to more luxury choices, and our top 5 soft cooler reviews are going to walk you through the best of the best.

So let's take a look in the detailed list below.

Soft Sided Coolers Review List

1. Yeti Field Hopper Cooler

Kicking off my list is the YETI Hopper Portable Cooler.

Yeti 40 Field Hopper

At a hefty price tag, this cooler is a high-end choice not suitable for the value shopper, but for those wanting the best, this is it.

Its great construction makes it a durable outdoor companion that will stand the test of time. The DryHide shell is puncture resistant and the straps are almost indestructible.

One issue with the YETI Hopper is access to the pack through the zipper opening. While the Hydrolok zippers, a design borrowed from Hazmat suits, are fantastic at preventing leaks, the placement is awkward.

Yeti Hopper Cooler

If you can live with the sometimes difficult zipper opening, you won’t find a more durable high quality soft cooler than this one. We have found that ice stays cool and doesn’t melt for days on end.

It even has a cool bottle opener attached to it, perfect for your next camping trip.

Overall, the YETI Hopper is a flexible, well-made piece of gear making it the best soft ice chest on my list.

2. Polar Bear Coolers 24 Pack Soft Cooler

Want to explore your real wild side while still having the option of a cool beverage at the end of your trek?

Polar Bear Coolers 24 Pack Soft Cooler

If so, the Polar Bear 24 Pack Soft Cooler might be the choice for you. With its camouflaged aesthetic and sturdy build, this cooler has great ice-retention and durability.

At a price point considerably lower than the Yeti Hopper listed above, we think you will like this excellent mid-range offering from Polar Bear.

Soft Sided Cooler Reviews

Something to be aware of is the capacity of the cooler. With ice inside you might struggle to fit in the advertised 24 pack load.

The tough nylon does make the Polar Bear a sound investment.

If you plan on frequent adventures and are a consumer looking for a good mid-level price, look no further than the Polar Bear 24 Pack.

3. RTIC 30 Soft Pack

Our favorite mid-range cooler on the list is the RTIC 30 Soft Pack.

RTIC 30 Soft Pack

Boasting ice retention of up to five days, a no-leak zipper, and a roomy inner, this is easily one of the best soft ice chests available online.

This cooler is a tank and well worth the higher price tag (still, much cheaper than the Yeti model).

Puncture resistant with a tough vinyl shell, the RTIC 30 Soft Pack is strong against even the smallest attacks, as it has an antimicrobial liner that prevents mildew.

Rtic Soft Cooler

Thankfully, it is UV and tear resistant as well.

The zipper can be a little tricky, but other charming design features such as the outer pocket for dry items, more than make up for it.

Yet another great soft cooler option, we think the everyday shopper will like this latest offering from RTIC.

4. IceMule Pro Coolers

At a slightly lower price, the IceMule Pro Cooler is another great mid-range choice.

IceMule Coolers Pro Coolers

In handy backpack form, it's also the most portable option on my list.

Why didn’t someone think of a cooler backpack before???

This is a great cooler for adventurers who want to stay light on their feet; a perfect fit for kayakers, concert-goers, and hikers.

Ice Mule Coolers

You won't find a badly sewn stitch on this bag as they clearly focus on quality. The patented molded design makes this lower cost cooler surprisingly well insulated.

Durable and with 24 hours ice-retention, this is a fantastic offering for people who want to stay mobile and still have ice-cold food and drinks at the end of the day.

For those looking for a nice mobile, backpacking cooler, check out the IceMule Pro Cooler by clicking the button below.

5. AO Coolers Canvas Soft Cooler

The budget option on my list is the Canvas Soft Cooler by AO Coolers. With a removable shoulder strap, this is also a great portable option.

AO Coolers Canvas Soft Cooler

With the lowest price of the five listed, there is a slight compromise on materials and construction.

The AO Cooler might not be the most durable ice chest on my list, but it's great for shorter, less frequent outings such as parties or trips to the beach.

This canvas cooler has a roomy main section and a side pocket for dry items. It also has a leak proof liner, which for the price, easily places it as one of the best soft sided coolers around.

It’s no wonder the AO Coolers Canvas received our “Best Value” pick in 2017.

Coleman 16-Can Soft Cooler

**Honorable Mention**

Before we conclude its worth having a quick look at the Coleman 16-Can Soft Cooler.

Coleman 16-Can Soft Cooler

Smaller than the other ice chests listed, this is a nifty little cooler that is great for half-day trips. It’s easy to clean, flexible and sports some nice side pockets for extra snacks.

At a very affordable price, this is a good starter cooler, or an extra pack for some snacks on route to your destination.

Check it out only if you are very limited on your budget and want to get the most affordable soft cooler on the market.

What’s The Best Soft Cooler Bag?

There are a lot of great products out there on the market but hopefully these soft cooler reviews have given you some pointers.

The abundance of choice works in your favor as you can select the best cooler for your type of trip.

Yeti (YHOP40T) 40 Field Hopper

High-end, thoughtfully designed, and well-constructed coolers like the YETI Hopper are going to set you back in the wallet, but will be durable and deliver on keeping your items cold for days.

Cheaper alternatives like the Polar Bear 24 pack have less ice-retention and may need to be replaced in time, but work perfectly if they are for lighter use and quick day trips.

Whichever soft ice chest you settle on, I'm sure a cool drink at the end of a long, hot day will be well worth the purchase.

Want to look beyond soft sided coolers?  We put together a legit, full post with the absolute best coolers available here.

Best Wheeled Coolers | Top 5 Rolling Ice Chests

Getting away from it all can be hard enough.

Best Coolers with Wheels

"the boat show" flickr photo by egarc2 https://flickr.com/photos/egarc2/473893888 shared under a Creative Commons (BY) license

Add on all those extra provisions and somewhere to store them, a peaceful trip away can soon become an arduous task.

One of the best ways to ease your burden is to invest in a wheeled cooler.

That way you can save your back muscles but can still enjoy a cold beer or a fresh sandwich at your getaway destination.

Want to see our top choice?  Click here to check the price on our favorite wheeled cooler, the high-end Pelican ProGear Elite.

I'm going to look at some of the best wheeled coolers online, all the while considering the cost, design, and other crucial quality features.

There's no reason a heavy ice chest should keep you from a cool beverage when you in the great outdoors.

After all, where there's a wheel there's a way.

Top 5 Rolling Coolers On The Market

1. Pelican
Products
ProGear Elite

First on my list is the Pelican Products ProGear Elite Wheeled Cooler.

Pelican is one of the most reputable cooler manufacturers in the world and one of our top 2 coolers brands and has over forty years of experience.

Pelican Products ProGear Elite Wheeled Cooler

The ProGear Elite does not buck their trend of rolling out yet another great ice chest.

Tough and UV resistant, this cooler will definitely be a great outdoor companion for a long time.

The chunky press and pull latches are excellent for use with gloves, while the non-skid feet will make sure the cooler doesn't go anywhere you don't want it to.

Want your food and drinks to stay cool for days without buying more ice? This cooler boast ten days of ice retention.

Pelican Wheels

Lastly, the heavy duty wheels round out a great design.  At a premium price, the ProGear Elite is on the expensive side.

But with Pelican offering a guarantee for life, this is a sound investment and a winner of our “Top Choice” in the search for the best cooler with wheels.

Still not sure Pelican can withstand whatever you throw at it?  Check out there quick 30 second video below...

2. Dometic White
 Avalanche Ultimate Cooler

The Dometic Avalanche Ultimate Wheeled Cooler is an absolute beast of a cooler and yet still has enough design finesse to be placed second on our wheeled coolers review list.

Dometic AVAL65LW White Avalanche

All-weather “T” latches, heavy duty all-terrain wheels, and a rugged construction makes this one of the best rolling coolers when it comes to durability.

The retractable handle is a nice touch, as you can easily tow your chilled-goods behind you, while the mold-in side handles are convenient for lifting.

The drain is well placed and very easy to clean, and you don't need to worry about losing the cap out in the wilderness because it's on a chain.

If you are looking for a nice mid-range rolling cooler, we recommend you check out this Dometic Avalanche.

3. Igloo Glide PRO Cooler

The next best wheeled cooler on my list at a modest price is the Igloo Glide PRO Cooler.

Igloo Glide PRO Cooler (110-Quart)

Built with a tough frame, the Igloo Glide is constructed from polyethylene, and has virtually indestructible zinc-plated metal hinges.

This ice chest has a sleeker design than some of the others, but don't let that fool you: it's still as rugged as the terrain you'll be towing it to.

And with the over-sized sport rally wheels, rough ground won't be a problem.

This is a well-sealed, decent piece of kit, with ice retention of up to five days.  The handle is also conveniently placed for pulling.

4. Rubbermaid 60-Quart Ice Chest/Cooler

At a very affordable price, the Rubbermaid Ice Chest 60-quart is the first of my budget options.

Rubbermaid 60-Quart Ice Chest/Cooler

This cooler comes in a nice range of sizes from 10 quarts to 60 quarts, with a fresh blue or hard-to-misplace red outer.

The easy to clean liner is also stain and odor resistant, while the thermal retention is good enough to keep food and drink chilled for a short trip.

The walls are thinner than some of the other models I've looked at, which is great for towing and moving, but not so great for longer trips.

So consider your needs when making this budget purchase.

5. Igloo 45069 Island Breeze Cooler

The most affordable of them all is the Igloo Island Breeze Cooler.

Igloo 45069 Island Breeze Cooler

As the second Igloo on my list it is priced substantially lower than the rest of the pack.

For some trips, a larger ice chest will be more trouble than it's worth, so it's good to have a smaller cooler with some of the same impressive attributes as the ones listed above.

This little weekender has a telescoping handle, soft ride sport rally wheels and side scoop handles for ease of moving it around off the ground.

Decent ice-retention and plenty of room for provisions for a shorter trip, make this is a great small size choice.

We certainly wouldn’t recommend it for those looking for a long lasting durable option, but for those that are on a budget and don’t require a high quality cooler than we believe this Island Breeze might do the trick.

Conclusion

I've looked a range of wheeled coolers from large to small, suitable for short trips and long excursions.

It's important to think carefully about how long you plan to store your perishables for and what sort of terrain or outings you'll be using your ice chest on.

Pelican Products ProGear Elite Wheeled Cooler

The usual size of your party will also be reflected in your needs, with solo travellers opting for a smaller, lighter cooler.

There are a lot of coolers to choose from, and this list is a fraction of the products available online.

From my top choice of the Pelican to the cheaper Igloo model, there's something out there for everyone.

Ready to up the anty and want to see what the best cooler of all-time is?

We put together a list of the top 5 coolers on the market with this EPIC GUIDE.

Best Marine Coolers | Top 5 Ice Chests For Fishing

As any sailor will tell you, the caprices of the open water are not to be taken lightly.

Pelican Products ProGear Elite Cooler

The saltwater and driving winds can wreak havoc on equipment and goods. As well as that, a bracing sea fishing trip can be ruined by a spoiled catch.

The last thing you want is a boat cooler that doesn’t hold up and keep your catch fresh throughout the trip.

It’s essential to get a marine cooler that keeps ice cold consistently over time and is durable enough to withstand many journeys.

I'm going to give you the rundown of our top five best marine coolers on the market today.

I'll be looking at a range of sizes, attributes, and prices so that you don't have to go overboard when researching your next marine ice chest.

Marine Cooler Reviews| Comparison Chart

Top 5 Marine Coolers On The Market

1. Yeti Tundra Cooler 65

It's no surprise that YETI has gained first slot on my list of best fishing coolers.

Yeti Tundra Cooler

The company is a stalwart of the ice chest manufacturing world and is constantly being praised as a brand for its excellent quality products and durability.

Yeti is a very trustable name brand in the cooler space.  It was started by two brothers that liked to fish and were tired of the flimsy options on the market.

The YETI Tundra therefore is a reliable investment if you're looking for a durable and well-designed cooler, though the great quality comes at a price.

Though the most expensive of the coolers on our list, if you are a frequent fisher, then consider this a smart investment for the long run.

Yeti handle

A good thing to remember is if you are buying a new cooler every year or two you end up losing money buying the cheaper model. It’s probably worth it to go quality and durability over price in this case.

Roto-molded in one piece, with T-Rex latches and a NeverFail hinge system, this marine ice cooler is a great catch.

Check it out and you will be sure to be blown away by the quality and attention to detail that Yeti puts in all their high-end marine coolers.

2. Pelican Products ProGear Elite Cooler

Next up is the Pelican Products ProGear Elite Cooler in 65-quart size.

Pelican Products ProGear Elite Cooler

Pelican sits together with YETI in the big league of ice chest manufacturers. Their products have 40 years of experience in them and are guaranteed for life.

The ProGear Elite cooler won't disappoint with it's ten days’ ice-retention and freezer grade gasket. That sure it a lot of mileage on a single pack of ice.

As the ice does start to melt you won’t need to worry about spillage as this cooler is extremely watertight.

Polyethylene plastic and robust handles also mean this ice chest is going to be with you for a long time. A great cooler and well worth the higher price.

3. Grizzly Coolers 60-Quart Cooler

The Grizzly 60-Quart cooler is just as mean and tough as the company's name suggests.

Grizzly Coolers 60-Quart Cooler

At a high price point like the two previous listings, it’s also selling in the premium quality market.

Again, we only want to recommend the best of the best and the Grizzly 60-Quart easily makes that list with their top of the line materials.

A great feature that many Yeti loyalists often overlook, is that Grizzly coolers are manufactured in the good ole US of A (Yeti has some of its manufacturing, not all, overseas).

It has feel-good built into the purchase, and that lifetime warranty isn't too bad either.

The ice-retention is great–up to ten days, while the seals are well made and will store your precious catch without causing a stink. A smooth surface coupled with an oversized drain also means this cooler is a dream to clean.

The Grizzly has been run over by an 11,000lb tractor in product testing and even has a bear proof certification, making this the rough and tough choice for fishing enthusiasts.

4. Coleman 120 Quart Xtreme 5 Marine Cooler

My budget choice is the Coleman 120 Quart Coastal Xtreme Series Marine Cooler.

Coleman 120 Quart Coastal Xtreme Series Marine Cooler

Priced considerably lower than the above models mentioned, this ice chest still has some great features, and so I can unashamedly support it as one of our best fishing coolers reviewed.

The Coastal Xtreme has a UV guard that will help protect your cooler and give it a longer lifespan than the price would initially suggest. It has an ice-retention of up to six days, and is rust resistant.

With the lower cost comes some downgrades in a few of the materials and production compared to the high-grade coolers. The lid will leak a little if left at an angle, so be sure to keep this ice chest on flat surfaces for prolonged periods of time.

Overall however, for the price, it'll be hard to find a better cooler. So if you are looking for a cheaper marine cooler model, look no further than our “Best Value” choice.

5. Outdoor Recreational Company of America Cooler

Finishing off my list of best boat coolers is the Outdoor Recreational Company of America Cooler, or ORCA brand.

Outdoor Recreational Company of America Cooler

Also made in the USA, this ice chest is durable and thoughtfully designed and effective.

However, it comes at the highest price point of all the coolers on my list when you include the shipping cost.

It is an excellent product and is sure to not disappoint, but we didn’t see any considerable strengths of this cooler over the others reviewed above when factoring in the price.

The ORCA cooler is roto-molded making it tough, but also sleek and easy to clean.

The company measures the cooler's internal dimensions, which means that you tend to get more room for your buck with their sizes.

The lid gasket ensures you have a tough seal, so you need not worry about finding your catch spoiled on the drive home.  They believe in their product and thus offer a lifetime warranty to go along with your purchase.

Summing It Up: What Is The Best Cooler for Fishing?

Best Fishing Coolers

Overall, we hope you have liked our marine coolers reviews and have come away with a better grasp of the best boating cooler for your particular budget.

I've looked at how proper seals, good ice-retention and value for your money can affect your choices when looking for the best coolers for boating and fishing.

Personally, we loved both the Yeti Tundra and Pelican Elite Model as they both deliver an excellent product that has the durability to last many outings.

For us, Yeti has slight edge with the detail that they put in manufacturing and eliminating all possible defects.

Yeti Tundra Cooler

It's absolutely vital that you consider the type of investment you want to make here, because some of the coolers run to upwards of $300 to $400.

However, if your trips are frequent and you feel your ice chest will be tested by the elements then this can be a very wise investment.

The worst case scenario is compromising on your purchase and coming home, opening your ice chest, only to find you've gotten fresh caught, but spoiled fish!

Best Beach Coolers | 5 Options For You Beach Goer!

Last Updated: September 19th, 2018

Is there a more pleasant way to celebrate a little rest and relaxation than a trip out to the beach with some friends?

YETI Hopper Flip 12

I don't think so.

What adds to such a great time spent by the ocean are some cool drinks, snacks, and maybe even a barbecue.  But you can't have any of those without the right cooler.

I'm going to walk you through my picks for the best beach coolers, so that you can hit the sand with the least effort involved.

My options range from high-end well-known brands to cheaper alternatives for those on a budget.

With all that sun and surf calling, let's get started.

Top 5 Beach Coolers

1. YETI Hopper Flip 12

The YETI brand dominates the top of the list for the best coolers for the beach and it’s for good reason.

YETI Hopper Flip 12

This Texas-based manufacturer rolls out great designs with long-lasting construction.

Yeti has built a name in recent year by offering premium coolers for those that are tired of the ordinary breakable, leaky models that are sold at large department stores.

They take quality seriously and it clearly shows in their products.

The Hopper Flip 12 is no exception to that rule, and at the high price point you will pay for the expertise and top-end materials. But keep in mind this isn’t just your usual beach cooler.

A good friend of mine actually uses his when he is going to the gym and wants to keep his after workout snacks and lunch cool all day.  The cubed body and broad fabric handles make this cooler an easy haul, while the squat silhouette means it can stand up to some of those strong sea breezes.

The dry-hide shell can withstand the elements and keep your goods protected.  I've used this cooler time and time again and have seen no sign of wear and tear.

Finally, the hydro-lock zipper and broad opening also offer easy access to your beachside essentials.    Check out all the details in this rad 2 minute video.

If you need a top notch beach cooler, look no further than our #1 recommendation, the Yeti Hopper Flip 12.

Looking for a cooler with a softer, more bendable frame?  We recommend the traditional Yeti Hopper portable cooler due to it's excellent versatility.

2. RTIC 30 Soft Pack

The RTIC Soft Pack is the next best beach cooler in my book.

RTIC 30 Soft Pack

At a more mid-range price point compared to the Yeti Hopper model above, this is a nice premium cooler boasting impressive durability.

With ice-retention of up to five days, the RTIC 30 Soft Pack can more than hold its own under the sun, and the no-leak zipper will prevent any spillage when the ice does start to melt.

The foam insulation and a cube shaped body add to this cooler's rugged appearance and use, while the shoulder strap adds comfort and convenience to make hauling it to the sand easy peasy.

The zipper can be a little tricky which is frustrating with wet hands, or in glaring light. That was about the only negative feedback we found in a few users.

Otherwise, this is a fantastic mid-level choice.

Looking for a more affordable model than the Yeti, we know this one will more than surpass your needs on your next day at the beach.

3. Malibu Beach Tote Bag with Insulated Picnic Cooler

Next up is a superb budget option for the beach.

Aruba Mesh Beach Tote Bag

The Malibu Mesh Beach Tote Bag is a steal of a deal at an affordable price. This lightweight, small tote bag has an insulated cooler section at the bottom to keep your drinks and snacks chilled for a short day at the beach.

The liner is flexible and easy to clean, while the overall construction of the bag is sturdy.

We loved the fact that you can use the bag as more than just a cooler as the top section can hold towels or clothes and has a couple handy pockets to go along with it.

Naturally, the price and design means this bag is a little different from the other options on our list, but it is a great alternative to bulkier ice chests.

One downside is that when the cooler compartment is empty, the bag looses its shape somewhat and can tip over. Also, the cooler compartment is a little smaller than some of the other earlier options we mentioned.

These are just a couple of the things to keep watch for.

However, if you are looking for a versatile bag where you can keep your food and drinks cool and carry your towels and sunscreen this is your bag and know you won’t be disappointed.

4. Coleman 16-Can Soft Cooler

A longstanding manufacturer of outdoor gear, Coleman produces some of the best budget coolers available for low prices.

Coleman 16-Can Soft Cooler

The Coleman 16-Can Soft Cooler is one such product. It certainly won’t set you back much on price. T

his cooler has a removable hard liner so you can pack it to your own requirements.

If you need more space, simply remove the hard shell. The adjustable shoulder strap and additional pockets also shows that Coleman had comfort in mind when designing this cooler.

The 16-can size advertised is perhaps a little optimistic, as you'll feel the squeeze when packing that much in. The PEVA liner is easy to clean, while the workmanship is generally sound, so you shouldn't find this wearing out before its time.

As I alluded to earlier, this is one of those budget big brand coolers, so don’t be surprised if the durability is an issue here.

However, if you are looking for a basic cooler at a great price then look no further than this Coleman offering!

5. Freddie and Sebbie Cooler Bag

The final choice on the list of the best coolers for the beach is the Freddie and Sebbie Cooler Bag.

Freddie and Sebbie Cooler Bag

Yet another good budget option, this tote bag is portable and very stylish with a classic blue and white stripe pattern.

Not only is the construction sound, this bag is also made from eco-friendly materials, so you won't have to feel guilty looking out on the stunning nature of the ocean.

The outer pocket is a nice touch and useful for keeping dry goods or toiletries.

The long handles make the Freddie and Sebbie cooler easy to carry, so your stroll down to the promenade won't be too tough.

Want a nice stylish design while keeping your drinks cool, we think this might be your best option.

Yodo Collapsible Soft Cooler Bag

Our Honorable Mention has to go to the Yodo 18L Collapsible Cooler Bag.

At a low price, this bag will give you a waterproof outer and a roomy interior for your beach-ready banquet. The padded shoulder straps and handles also means it’s as comfortable as it is useful.

Again those price sensitive buyers should look no further than this latest Yodo offering.
